Abstract
Transparent single crystals of piperazine tartrate (PPZT) have been grown by the slow evaporation solution growth technique (SEST) at room temperature (RT) using doubled distilled water as a solvent. Powder X-ray diffraction confirms the monoclinic crystal structure of the grown crystals, and the lattice parameters of grown crystals have been determined. The strain developed in the lattice is calculated using the Williamson Hall relation. The crystals exhibit photo luminescence in the wavelength range of 350-500 nm upon illumination by a Xe flash lamp, and their time resolved decay behaviour has been analysed and decay constants calculated. The crystals exhibit positive photoconductive behaviour and the photosensitivity of the material has been calculated.
