Abstract

Sol-gel derived nanostructured tin oxide (Nano-SnO2) film (annealed at 500 °C for about 2 h) has been dip-coated onto indium-tin-oxide (ITO) coated glass for immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOx). This Nano-SnO2/ITO film has been characterized using X-Ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-Visible, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques. XRD diffraction measurements reveal particle size of the Nano-SnO2 film as 3-4 nm. It has been found that GOx/Nano-SnO2/ITO bioelectrode exhibits response time as 5 s, detection limit as 0.169 mg/dL, linearity as 10-300 mg/dL, correlation coefficient as 0.899, sensitivity as 2.687 μA mg/dLcm2 and it retains about 80% of its initial response current after about 7 weeks. The value of the Michaelis-Menten constant (Km) has been estimated as 2.8 mg/dL (0.16 mM).
