Abstract

An investigation on determination of viscosity based on radial mode resonance of a piezoelectric ceramic ring transducer operating at 32.5kHz is reported. The change in its resonant frequency and in the half peak bandwidth have been measured with the disc vibrating in air, water, pure glycerine and a glycerine-water mixture. An improved configuration of coupling the transducer to the liquid medium has been used so that it has semi-infinite loading of its front face. Also, a correction in the bandwidth eliminating the mechanical loss inherent in the piezoelectric element has been made, which has improved the accuracy of viscosity determination.
