Abstract

The highly uniform NdF3 :Tb3+ nanorods were successfully synthesized using simple wet chemical rout carried out in an aqueous solution at low temperature. The synthesized NdF3 :Tb3+ nanorods were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV/Vis absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopy. TEM micrographs show nearly mono-dispersed rod shaped particles have an average size ∼30 nm. Photoluminescence spectra of doped nanocrystals exhibited two broad emission transitions in the middle of visible region at 530 nm and 595 nm, which correspond to 4 G7/2 →4 I9/2 and 4 G7/2 →4 I11/2 transitions of neodymium ion, respectively. The green and orange emissions were attributed to transitions from the 4 G7/2 excited state. The synthesized nanocrystals have their potential applications in many technological fields such as optoelectronics devices.
