Abstract

We report the enhancement and blueshift in photoluminescence (PL) of ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) doped with size-controlled ZnO quantum dots (QDs). The PL from strong, medium and weakly confined ZnO QDs has been coupled favorably with that of FLC and augmented the PL intensity with an additional feature of color tunability. This is attributed to the change in the index of refraction of the host FLC material due to the presence of ZnO QDs. These studies would provide benchmark for realization of luminescent FLC devices that are tunable.
